After 4 years of sustained mayhem, the Sunday Ride has officially gone off-line.

Dam Ride - Sunday, March 8

The forecast is looking good!!!!!

When: Sunday, March 8.

Ride begins at 1:00 P.M. sharp.

Don't forget to spring forward 1 hour!

Where: Beyond the Edge, 112 S 11th St. 37206.

Route: Primarily follow greenways to Percy Priest Dam and return.

Distance: Approximately 26 miles total.

Pace: Greenway appropriate (10-15mph), very beginner friendly*.

Terrain: Mainly flat but a couple of "minor" hills.

Please bring an ample supply of water. None is available along the route.

*No one will be dropped as we will regroup frequently.

Rain or threatening weather cancels :(

The 2nd annual Nashville Scavenger Hunt is getting ready to launch in spectacular fashion for 2009. The event will take place April 26, 2009.

Beyond the Edge is providing the venue again this year.The scavenger hunt will operate the same as last year.

2009 will also feature an embedded poker run. You can do either, or both!

It is hard to convince fellow slacker urban cyclists to get out in the cold and damp. Mountain biking excursions have proven to be a great way to go slower and not be exposed to the elements for long periods of time.

Check back regularly. Should a warm(er) Sunday appear in the forecast, the ride will be ON !!!

Route: Slightly modified Eastside Tour de Nash route. A few minor hills.

Distance: @ 14 miles

Pace: Perfect for beginners, slackers and anyone who just wants to enjoy the early fall vistas and being outdoors . Let gravity and inertia do the work when possible.

Duration: @ 1.5 hours and return to BTE in time to watch the 2nd half of the Titans game, if you so desire.

Where: Meet at the fighter jet in Centennial Park.
Route: Westside Tour de Nash route minus PW Park.
Pace: Moderate, plan to stay in a loose group.
Terrain: Gently Rolling.
Distance: @ 20 miles.
Difficulty Level: Tom Collins , easy mix of flats/gentle hills.
Planned Stops: Granny White Market and Mafiaoza's in time to see the 2nd half of the Titans' game.

Where was VY? Tribute Ride - Sunday, Sept. 14

It was reported that Vince had gone missing earlier this week. After half the MNPD and SWAT team were dispatched to find his whereabouts, it turned out he and a buddy had gone to Nuttin but Wings for a couple of dozen hot ones (and a few cold ones!) and to watch Monday Night Football.

In tribute to the drama caused by this wing related incident, here are the parameters for this Sunday's Ride, Sept. 14.

1. The ride will begin at high noon (12:00) beneath the wings of the fighter jet in Centennial Park. Check this out if you have The Time.

2. Route: Sylvan Park, Richland, BMeade, Tyne, Radnor?, Granny White, blah, blah...eventually winding up at Mafiaoza's . Give or take, 20 miles. Rolling hills. Moderate pace. Plan to stay grouped.

3. The ride will officially terminate at Mafiaoza's, but stick around for hot wings*, pizza, 2-4-1s and the 2nd half of the Titan's game.

*Yes, Mafiaoza's has wings and they have TVs at the outdoor bar. Nuttin but Wings is closed on Sundays. If you can think of any other place with 2-4-1, hot wings, TVs and smoke-less, please let me know and we may modify the terminus.

Alley Cat Race - Team Forming

There is a very loosely organized team forming for Saturday night's Alley Cat Race (Aug. 30). The race starts at 8:00 P.M. @ Centennial Park. The team is going to have a pre-race gathering at U.S. Border Cantina (29th Ave. N) at 6:00 P.M.

To participate in the race team, I recommend that you have the following functional items: bicycle, front and rear lights, helmet, and clothing (optional).

This is for fun. Please do not take race team concept too seriously :)

If you can't make the race, feel free to stop by U.S. Border Cantina for drinks, dinner, autographs, team photos, etc.

Saturday, August 9 Meet-up Ride @ Tomato Art Festival

Let me first say that I sincerely apologize if reading this blog is interrupting your training regimen.

If it is not a violation of your pro contract, how about breaking out a cruiser bike (blasphemy!) or any other POS with two wheels and meeting up at the Tomato Art Festival @ 2:00pm on Saturday, August 9 ?

Meet in front of I Dream of Weenie at 2:00 P.M. Most bikers usually park their wheels across the street in front of the post office.

Hang out for a while, have conversations, consume food and beverages, listen to live music, people watch and then cruise through East Nashille/Shelby Bottoms at a leisurely pace (horrid!).This festival was a lot of fun last year. Here is a link to their website: http://www.tomatoartfest.com/

This summer has been filled with some great cycling. By the time Sunday afternoon rolls around I'm ready for R & R rather than suffer the mid-afternoon heat. I plan to resume the Sunday Ride when temperatures are milder and there are not so many other cycling related events going on.

There is an Alley Cat race Saturday night (July 19). Meet on the south side of Centennial Park at 8:00 P.M. I assume that is along West End Ave. (Those are all the details that I have. Sorry.)

Start: The railroad trestle at Bicentennial Mall Park - 600 James Robertson Parkway (across from the State Capitol). Free parking is availabe in any of the large state parking lots just northeast of the trestle.

Time: 1:00 P.M.

Route: Cruise the Bicentennial Mall, Centennial Park, McCabe Park and Radnor Lake.

Distance: @ 25 miles
Pace: 10-13 mph average
Terrain: mostly flat, a few hills.

Bring plenty of water/sports drink !!!

Extracurricular Activity : Re-fueling on Mafiaoza's Patio near the end of the ride (2-4-1 on Sundays!).

June 8 Ride Recap

Dam ! Dam! Dam! Everybody wants to go to the dam.

A high spirited group gathered on the patio of BTE despite the sweltering temperature. New riders were welcomed and the adventure was on: 20 scenic miles.

The first stop was atop the greenway connector bridge.

The turn-a-round point was the Daily's on Stewarts Ferry Pike. Tempers flared as someone pointed out their odometer reading was 14.2 miles at the halfway point of a 20 mile ride. The mood definitely improved as everyone re-hydrated and had snacks.

The "bobcat hole" bridge has obviously not been repaired.

The ride ended up being @ 29 miles. After-ride pizza, Dos Perros and pleasant conversation erased the pain of heat exhaustion and sore butts.

Thanks to everyone for coming out and riding safely !!!

Cycling to the Sounds
Just how long has it been since you have ridden your bicycle to a Sounds game? Possibly never ?

The Sunday Ride (June 1) will begin at NOON. Meet at Beyond the Edge.
(Note: If you want to get a few extra miles, park at Greer Stadium)

This will be a great ride for beginners. No spandex? No problem!

Plan to loop through East Nashville and ride the Shelby Bottoms Greenway (not raceway) /Davidson Street back to downtown and meander over to Greer Stadium for the game. First pitch is at 2:00 P.M.

The Sounds will be playing the Iowa Cubs.
General admission is $8.00, reserved seating $12.00. The promo is Purity Sundae Sunday, which translates to ice cream sundaes are $1.00.

The "official" ride will terminate at Greer Stadium. Feel free to join the ride even if you can't attend the game.

Weekend Ride Recap w/ photos

Saturday marked the 5th annual Tour de Nash: a fantastic event !!! Great vibe from the start... Stocked rest stops were plentiful and the routes were well planned and varied enough from previous years to keep it interesting. Kudos to whomever took the Otter Creek hill out of the west side route ! Our riding group splintered at the Shelby Bottoms Bridge. I wound up with @ 60 miles for the day including the pizza and Yazoo post ride tours.

The Sunday Ride rocked ! With Percy Priest Dam as our destination, a determined group headed to the greenway with high expectations and a hint of fear of the unknown...

The first stop was 2 Rivers Skate Park. Dan (GAD) threw down with the mohawked youth and dazzled the crowd with his skills on the halfpipe!

After a perilous crossing of Lebanon Road, we encountered lots of beautiful scenery but had to portage around a few impasses.

Finally, we reached the dam......

Alice and Karla joined us at the dam and we headed back. A short but heavy rainfall briefly lowered our spirits but we all safely made it back across to 2 Rivers. (For those of you considering this route, there is no easy or safe crossing of Lebanon Rd.)

I got a rear flat and my Red Zepplin inflator basically exploded under pressure. Ron had 2 extra cartridges, both of which had been used... misery ensued. Greg Crowe (no relation) and DJ to the rescue. They happened by and had a small pump that provided just enough PSI to get me rolling again.

After a few miles of slooooow riding with a under inflated (half-flat) rear tire over a rough section, I realized a pinch flat was eminent.

Suddenly, like a CO2 angel, Halley emerged from the horizon and offered a unused 16 gram cartridge. It was full speed back to the start from there.

Sunday Ride and Tour de Nash After-Ride Details

The Sunday Ride (May 18) will begin at 1:00 P.M. Meet on the patio at BTE. This will be a nice recovery ride for those participating in the Tour de Nash on Saturday. Weather permitting, plan on @ 20 miles at a casual pace along the Shelby Bottoms/2 Rivers and Stones River Greenways over to Percy Priest Dam and back. We are going to the dam or bust !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Tour de Nash. The ultimate bicycle tour of Nashville. There is going to be an after-ride gathering for all serious cyclist to re-carb and re-hydrate.

Where: Nashville's Most Wanted Pizza - 207 Woodland Street (less than 1 block north of LP Stadium)

Stopped there last night to check it out:
(Positives)
1. Extremely welcoming management/staff ~ A+
2. Nice patio
3. Pizza looked and smelled great! (low carb no crust pizza available)
4. Baked hot wings
5. Decent assortment of bottled beers (a few imports)
6. Smoke-free

1. No draft beer
2. No mixed drinks or wine
3. No Dos Perros, but he said he would have it by Saturday. (You might want to carry your own lime. I didn't see any there.)

Sunday Ride Update....

I had planned to offer a thrilling detailed account of the 3S3M ride, but lightning, rain storms and wet roads at the start convinced me not to attempt the ride. Maybe next year...

Instead, I opted for the alternative 25 mile route which included a trip to the IMAX, 3 jumbo shrimp, a dozen oysters and 3 Sweet Georgia Brown Ales. The route mainly followed the Chattanooga River Park trail. I almost lost it several times trying to avoid goose droppings along the smooth, relatively flat, concrete trail. The posted speed limit for bikes was 5 mph. I think we averaged 4.

The final rest stop was at the Boat House which offered a gorgeous view of the Tennessee River and the River Park trail. Upon departure from the Boat House it became apparent that someone had changed the bike speed limit signs to read 555 mmmppphhh and the goose droppings had also tripled. Go figure ????

Upcoming area cycling events:

May 9: The official bike-to-work day. Groups will meet at various places on the outskirts of town and bike into the downtown area. Details can be found here. (I think you will have to scroll down the page to find the details).

May 11: No official Sunday Ride due to Mothers' Day. What to burn off some of that massive lunch? I'll be on the patio at BTE @ 2:00 pm if anyone wants to cruise the Shelby Bottoms/Two Rivers greenway over to Percy Priest Dam. Shoot me an email.... jcrowjr@yahoo.com

Can you believe it's May? This weekend is 3S3M. Several of the usual Sunday Riders, including me, will be in Chattanooga or at home recovering from the event.

Fred (aka: messengeronsunday) has agreed to lead the Sunday Ride. He is such a gentle soul. His all caps 3 Feet Rule post is considered a classic among local cycling bloggers.

12:30 - Arrive at BTE. Partly cloudy.

12:50 - Ron arrives. A few rain drops are spotted on windshields of cars parked next to patio.

12:59 - Fred and Todd arrive. Torrential rains begin.

1:05 - The Daley Duo arrived soaked to the bone.

1:15 - Ride officially cancelled.

Sunday Ride - April 27- Note start location change.

Metro owns the (free) parking lot next to Beyond the Edge and there is lots of free street parking in the area.

Plan on riding the east side portion of the Tour de Nash route. The pace will be easy/moderate with a few minor hills. Total distance @ 15 - 20 miles. We may even get brave and cross the new pedestrian bridge.

Brews/snacks to be enjoyed after the the ride at BTE.

All ability levels and bicycle types are welcome. Don't forget your helmet !

Plan to ride as a group. No cue sheets will be available.

Maybe it's finally time to put away the cold weather gear and enjoy some warm rays and the frivolity of spring !

For the Sunday Ride, plan on about 15 miles at a easy/moderate pace.

This Sunday will be a great ride for beginners. Emancipate yourself from mental slavery and break out the cruiser/hybrid/singlespeed/mountain bike/two wheeled carbon, steel, aluminum, tiatnium, whatever. Helmets are required. The ride will start at 1:00 P.M. sharp here. Rest stop @ mile 12 at Beyond the Edge. 2-4-1 going on there!

The snow melted and the temp was perfect for an afternoon ride. Peer pressure persuaded me to break out the spandex and road bike. A 100% clickity clack, clickity clack group it was. Our small but voracious pack took on a modified westside TdN route joining up with more riders at Centennial Park and Sylvan Park (welcome back Trey).

Otter Creek Hill is just not the same when you have 20 different gear ratios to select from. We refueled at the market on Granny White and pedaled through Radnor Lake at a very comfortable pace.

What a day not to have the camera (spandex = no pockets). A dude was practicing tight rope (actually loose rope) walking near Lipscomb as we passed by in a near land speed record blur.

Jill (aka: human voice cue sheet) prompted us home. With the smell of pizza in the air, my heart yearned as we rolled past Mafiaoza's.

The final tally was around 26 miles with lots of fun and laughs. It set a new record as the shortest (elapsed time) Sunday Ride ever.

2 Rides in One Day

Spring fever has officially erupted in Nashville. Regina of HBC organized a fantastic morning ride. A spry group rolled from the Lipscomb area to Bongo Java East to get caffeineated and then joined the hordes of cyclist/walkers on the Shelby Bottoms Greenway. Most of our group threw caution to wind and crossed the soon to be completed bridge.

The official Sunday Ride began at 1:00. With Donna sporting her new Jamis, we took on the brutal headwinds of Metro Center Levee intent upon completing the westside TdN route.

The Richand Creek Greenway was also quite lively.

As usual, the dreaded Otter Creek Hill claimed its victims. Me being one of them.

Chrissy and Ron decided to have a pose down at Mafiaoza's.

I want muscles !!!!!

As a great day of riding wound down, lil' Tiffnee and her beau Glenn savored the atmosphere...(insert Neil Diamond tune here) We danced until the night became a brand new day....

Next week= more miles in preparation for 3S3M.

The Sunday Ride for March 2

Sunday looks like it is going to be be an awesome day for cycling!!!!

It's too cold. It might rain. The streets are wet. I have to go to the grocery store. I'm hung over. My laundry is piled up. My spouse wants me to (fill in the blank). My girlfriend/boyfriend is in town... no excuses this time...

Spring is almost here. I guess it is time to get relatively serious...

An excellent adventure is planned. If weather permits, plan to do the entire westside TdN route (minus Warner Park) for a total of @ 30 miles at a 12-14 mph pace. No one will be left behind. We will regroup at various spots along the way. Cue sheets will be available. I will sweep.

Sunday Afternoon Mayhem - February 24

With cloudy skies threatening rain/snow and temps much colder than forecast, the ride was bordering on cancellation. A group of 5 decided to brave the elements for an abbreviated ride. The original plan was to ride @ 30 miles at a moderate pace. The modified ride resulted in 20 miles at a widely varying pace.

After cruising through Centennial Park (where's Kendall?), we headed over to Les's crib so he could make the switch to his fixie. While Les was prepping his fixie for the ride, an eastside ruffian tried to jack Matt's vintage Clubman. Luckily, I was able to thwart the would be thief by activating my super human power of flight.

Due to a tube issue, Les didn't get to ride fixie but he did show it off using his manicured lawn and landscaping as a backdrop.

Onward to the recently extended Richland Creek Greenway. It is an awesome trail that follows the perimeter of McCabe golf course.

Are we lost yet?

We ran across this nice gentleman doing battle in Elmington Park. ( Insert Darth Vader breathing sound here).

Spring Fever Trifecta

The early morning storms held yesterday's ride in limbo until the last minute... but shortly after noon, spring fever errupted in Nashville. It was a little breezy, but warm temps and sunny skies drew hundreds of folks outdoors.

We casually rolled toward Centennial Park and cruised around the lake sharing the trail with many others who were enjoying the vistas. From there the group rolled through the Vandy campus where we were almost trampled to death by a wandering herd of what appeared to be mutant homo sapiens that were mostly clad in orange and white. The bike lanes along Belmont Boulevard provided a much needed stress relief.

We chatted with some local politicians on the patio of Mafiaozas while enjoying pizza and ale. On to the Red Door West...

With the Daytona 500 occupying every TV screen and blaring through the sound system, we perched on the deck overlooking Division St. and chatted with the peeps at the table next to us who were rolling their own. Big Wheel racing is huge on the west coast. Nashville needs one badly.

Lots of laughs at the Red Door and the thrill of using hidden bike parking.

East to the Music Row Round-a bout for some crit racing and a spectacular view of Musica framed by the blue sky and pillowy clouds (click picture).

Last stop was Broadway Brewhouse -Downtown. We were seated next to a nice couple from Massachusetts who were obviously trying to overcome the sadness of Mitt Romney withdrawing from the Presidential Race. Using O'Doul's to ease the pain ? That is a new concept.

Sunday Ride - February 17

Fixed for a Day

After a beautiful Saturday, I refused to accept the fact that yesterday's high was only going to be 42 degrees with NW winds at 20-25 mph, so the ride started in good spirits. A loosely assembled version of the fantastic four rolled westward with a nice tailwind pushing. Near the Bicentennial Mall I suddenly realized that I was the only one not riding a fixed-gear. Through the magic of a flip-flop hub, we pulled over and presto: everyone was now riding fixed-gear. Destination: Mafiaoza's.

Fred led the way, trying his best to find the weaknesses in the all fixie crowd: lots of quick turns, rapid descents and sudden stops made for a challenging ride. Matt had built up an awesome vintage Austrian made Clubman for the ride. Very nice and unique.

An important equation to remember for Mafiaoza's:
Dos Perros + The Last Request + Fresh Jalapenos = Immediate Indigestion

A special thanks goes to Ron for agreeing to share a Last Request with extra jalapenos. Can I get extra Tums with that, please? Pretty please?????

The "all downhill" ride home was a killer with a strong freezing cold headwind.

Sunday Ride - Feb. 10

Local forecasters continue to raise the expected high temperature for this coming Sunday (Feb. 10). They all agree that it is going to be sunny !!!!

Plan on a distance of 15-20 miles depending on temperature. Start time: 1:00 PM, here.

If you want to see a fantastic band (at a reasonable time for "mature" folks), check out the Pat Buchanan Band at 3rd & Lindsley , Saturday night (Feb. 9), 7:00 P.M. They ROCK ! Their set usually lasts @ 90 minutes. You'll be home in time to watch Matlock.

3S3M is less than 90 days away. I can feel the cramps coming on already !!!!! Also, the post time for the Kentucky Derby is 6:04 EST that same day. My covert plan is to convince the crew to try the full century and finish in time to see the Derby.

Super Bowl Party

I have been coerced into having a Super Bowl Party.
(That means no Sunday Ride.)

Time/Place: 3:00 pm, Sunday (Feb. 3) at my place.

The kitchen will open at 1:00 pm for anyone wanting to do pre-party onsite cooking / food prep. I plan on having chili (Carrie help?), clam chowder (Kyle) and cornbread/slaw (Tiffany). Complimentary food/drink items would be appreciated.

If so desired, bring $ for gaming activities .....

Feel free to bring any guests that do not require behavior interventions on a regular basis.

Ride Recap

Yesterday's ride began by traversing the mean streets of Metro Center and the picturesque rolling hills of Dodge City.

Kudos to Metro Public Works as the bike lane along Dr. D.B. Todd Blvd. was freshly swept and clear of flat causing debris.

From there the group progressed to Centennial Park for a short rest stop. It was discovered that the public restrooms were closed for winter. A hooligan was spotted in the underbrush near the locked restroom entry.

Then, on to Sylvan Park where we picked up the Richland Creek Greenway and met up with two friendly McCabe area residents at the trailhead. They were out on cruisers soaking up the warm afternoon sunshine...

Matt flatted after running over a chunk of something the size of an unexploded WW II bomb (Yes, I saw the new Rambo last night) on the bridge of White Bridge Rd. After a quick repair we headed for downtown and paused to collect our thoughts on the Shelby Pedestrian Bridge.

As the shadows grew longer, we decided to head over to the eastside for a quick pizza. The pizza I ordered was so perfectly cooked that it inspired me to sing !!! My compliments to the chef at 3Crow.
Hey Lil' Tiffnee, how is this for a cooking idea????

Afterwards, a group of buds got together and drove over to Green Hills to watch Sly solve all the genocide problems in Burma with the help of a 50 caliber machine gun and bow & arrow. If you like good triumphing over evil, see it.

Cure for the Wintertime Blues

The weather forecast for Sunday (Jan. 27) is promising, so the ride is on ! The route will be determined by consensus within the group. Option A: 15 miles on the east side. Option B: 30 miles on the west side. The ride starts here. 1:00 P.M.

Old Man Winter

Since the high temp for Sunday (Jan. 20) is predicted to be 35 degrees, it looks like the Sunday Ride will again be cancelled. Call me whatever, but that is way too cold to have fun on a bike unless mega alcohol intake applies to the situation!

A wise old Harley rider once told me that if the weatherman predicts a 50% chance of rain and the high temperature not to exceed 50 degrees, cancel the ride. The forecast for Sunday (Jan 13) meets that cancellation criteria. If the forecast should change, I'll post details for the reinstated ride. JVC

A Ride of Epic Proportion

Yesterday's 16 miler set the bar for fun winter outdoor activity. With temperatures in the high 60s, a dozen riders headed out to explore the wilds of Shelby Bottoms.
Lots of folks were out walking, running, blading and biking so the greenway was quite busy. Above are a couple of pics of some "trespassers" traversing the construction gate at the new ped/bike bridge. Progress looked great!

There were a couple of families atop the earthen bridge ramp when we rode by. All the kids up there went bezerk when they saw (and heard) our crew.

The legendary end of Riverside Drive incline claimed yet another victim.

Actually, Fred climbed it twice: on his fixie and a beach cruiser.
Matt also smoked it on his single speed/coaster brake.

After the hill climb challenge, we made our way to 3 Crow and group practiced the primal scream in a failed effort to cheer the Titans to victory.

A Meeting of the Minds

This past Sunday's ride welcomed a large contingent from Harpeth Bike Club joining the regular motley crew. Singlespeeds and carbon fibers do mix. We covered @ 30 miles by cruising Metro Center, Dodge City, Centennial Park, BM Boulevard, Tyne, the dreaded hills of Otter Creek, Granny White and eventually winding up at Mafiaoza's for appetizers and swill. Some of the group had opted for a short cut and were about two pints ahead of us upon arrival. It was a chilly ride back to the starting point, but all were in good humor.

Sunday's Ride (January 6), 1:00 P.M.

The forecast looks a little dicey, but moderate in temperature. The Titans march to the super bowl commences at 3:30 pm.
Plan to cruise the Shelby Bottoms Greenway , eastside bike lanes and maybe (just maybe) attempt the infamous incline at the end of Riverside Drive. Ride length not to exceed 15 miles definitely rolling into 3 Crow prior to kickoff.

Mountain, Urban and Titans

Partly sunny best describes the weather forecast for this coming Sunday (Dec. 30). The urban ride will depart from the usual starting point at 1:00 P.M.
Plan to ride the entire west side Tour de Nash route @ 30 miles. Moderate pace.
Don't try to use the Titans game as an excuse as the kickoff time has been rescheduled to 7:15 P.M.

Progress is being made on the Shelby Bottoms Bridge. It was nice to meet some fellow "gate jumpers" checking it out yesterday. Click here for details about a fun ride to celebrate the future opening of the bridge.

The forecast for Sunday (Dec 23) has improved. I'm planning a low key (aka:easy) ride starting @ 1:00 pm and terminating at 3Crow prior to the Titans 3:15 pm kickoff. Route to be decided/debated.

The Infusion

Harpeth Bike Club's holiday party held this past Saturday night was a blast. The peeps, food,drink and band were splendid !!! Carbon and lycra stayed home. Frequent topics of conversation in the crowd included who brought the infusion and rumors of another East Nashville based poker run (please!). Check out their website. The rides are always fun (but challenging) and the social activities rawk.

The weather forecast is rather gloomy for Sunday (Dec 23). Hopefully the clouds will part after lunch so the ride may go on. Worst case scenario: get in a few miles by riding to 3Crow and watch the Titans vs Jets, which kicks off at an unusual time of 3:15 pm.

They Call It Snowy Sunday

The weather forecast for Sunday (Dec 16) is not conducive to cycling, so I am not planning an organized ride.

I wouldn't mind doing a hike around noonish on Sunday. I found this trail at Long Hunter State Park. The 4 mile option sounds good for a noon start if anyone is interested.

This is how we roll

For mid December, yesterday's weather was near perfect for an afternoon ride. The streets were a little damp but spirits were high as we gallivanted through Centennial Park, Sylvan Park and Elmington Park (where we witnessed the pseudo-bravehearts practicing the slaughter of their brethren).

After cruising Belmont/Music Row and the Demonbreun corridor, we proceeded across the Gateway Bridge. From the brige, the scoreboard at LP was visible and clearly indicated that Titans were headed for another victory...or so we thought.

Ron led the pack down the Shelby Greenway and we checked out the progress on the new pedestrian/bike bridge which will be the focus of an upcoming bike event. From there we backtracked to 3Crow. I was pushing a 46x16 single speed and Dan decided to lead us out of Shelby Park by climbing a hill steeper than El Capitan.

Christen and David on their tandem with daughter in tow decided to call it a day as it was getting late and darkness loomed. We joined the crowd at 3Crow to revel in the Titans victory. How things can change in a few short minutes in pro football. They lost, but the pizzas were good.

The highlight of 3Crow is when some dude who was double fisting a Miller High Life and a glass of straight whiskey accidentally marinated Dan's entire torso with the whiskey. Thank goodness there were no open flames around !

Having viewed the extended weather forecast, I don't want to prematurely post details for next weekend's ride. Check back later. JVC

Planned Stop: 3 Crow Bar in time for the 4th quarter of the Titans game
End time: 4:30 (before dark !)

Saturday Night Fight (12/8)
With the help of our friend at Comcast, I plan to have the PPV Mayweather/Hatton fight (click here for details) at my place Saturday night. The fight is scheduled to start @ 8:00 pm cst. I'll have some Yazoo and snacks on hand, but bring whatever you would like.
